I made a misconception last time. The book is called "The Partner" not because Eva is partners with Patrick, but because Patrick was one of 3 or 4 lawyers who were partners at his law firm. Partners at a law firm each get a set amount of power in that law firm and share a certain amount of the income. Patrick's law firm was in bankruptcy and he and the other partners were supposed to share the last 60 million dollars in the firm. Patrick faked his death and took all of the money and fled to Brazil.
Now Patrick is being held in a hospital in Washington D.C. and is awaiting his trial in court. No one knows where the money is yet (except for Eva). Patrick's wife Trudy, a blonde "high school sweet heart", had been left with 2 million dollars in life insurance after Patrick's death and had been living quite luxuriously with her drug dealing pool boy boyfriend Lance, until she heard that he was still alive. Now she is being sued by the attorneys for all of the 2 million.
So far, the partner is playing out like a classic thriller movie. In fact a few of John Grisham's books have been made into movies. Each chapter is separated into multiple sections that skip around through each characters present experiences or past events that help explain the plot.
I'm interested to find out what happens to Patrick and Eva. So far, Patrick is looking at solitary confinement for 23 hours a day. Eva hasn't been caught yet, but the FBI know who she is and have already talked to her father and co-workers. Luckily for her, none of them would talk.

The Partner by John Grisham
It turns out that Patrick was being helped by a Brazilian lawyer named Eva Miranda who is also his love interest I'm presuming from the context of the book. Anyways, Patrick got kidnapped by the private investigators and Eva found out. She was told by Patrick that if this situation were to occur, she was to separate the money he had stolen into 12 different banks of her choice (he doesn't know which banks) and to call the FBI and tell them that a group of private investigators are involved with Patrick's case and are planning to kill him. She tells the FBI that Stephano is the head of the investigation and, infuriated, two men are sent to Stephano's house. They order him to hand over Patrick or he and the entire team of investigators and their clients will be arrested. Stephano agrees and tells them to go to an airport in Brazil and wait for Patrick's arrival. During these occurrences Patrick had been totured by Guy and Osmar's team and told them about Eva and what had happened. Stephano told them about what had happened and ordered them to immediately take Patrick to the ariport. Patrick was patched up, drugged, and sent to the airport and was soon picked up by the FBI and flown away.
I'm predicting that the book is going to begin to start revolving around Evas perspective. The book is called the partner and I'm assuming that it's talking about her. I think that Patrick will most likely die and Eva will have to depend on herself to survive and run from the FBI. I could be wrong though. Eva could ge caught by the FBI early on and the whole plot could twist somehow.
The author is not bias at all. He does not favor any of the characters. Instead he talks with a neural tone and just explains what is going on and how a character feels at the moment. The only problem with this is that the reader doesn't really become attatched to any of the characters. He doesn't really go very deep into the character's emotions.
So far I'm enjoying The Partner, but I don't think it will be a very memorable book.

The Partner by John Grisham published 1997
The partner is a mystery/thriller set in Brazil and the United States written by author John Grisham.
The book starts out when a team of inspectors are watching a man named Danilo Silva. Or at least that's his cover name. His name is actually Patrick Lanigan, a young partner of a law firm that shut down. Patrick was to have supposedly died in a burning car, but it is said that he was watching his own funeral. After Patrick's death a large sum of money was stolen from the firm's account. A team of private detectives were summoned to solve this strange occurrence. After four years they were lead to Rio, a town in Brazil, and have been following Danilo Silva who they believe is actually Patrick (he had plastic surgery...). An American detecive, Guy, and a Brazilian detecive, Osmar, are operating the investigation under Stephano's orders. Stephano owns the private detective agency in Washington.
Obviously there is going to be a lot more to this investigation seeing how this is the beginning of the book. I'm suspecting Danilo is working with someone else.
This book, all though not beautifully written, keeps the reader engaged. He paces the book smoothly and swiftly and does not bore you with too many details. It reminds me of a rugged 1950's detective thriller. The detectives call Danilo "Danny Boy" which seems very cliche. At first I wasn't even sure when this book was set until they mentioned computers.
